GENIUS LAB

In Tirana, in a contemporary building, a new space takes place, a medical laboratory and offices with a minimal design where every detail is taken care of by Andaras Studio: Genius Lab/Genius Distribution.

The building with a glass skin is full of natural light however functionality imposes lot of partitions in the space.

The client, from medical laboratories services, was looking for a  space that will reflect the image for their work. This way our first approach started with looking to all necessities and special program to follow.

The functional program is distributed on three floors, +1 and -1,-2 connected by a staircase and an elevator. The main entrance is on the ground floor as this floor is the one connected to the outside. This connection to the outside is one of the main concerns of the proposal. It’s very important that the brand can be quickly recognized, but at the same time not compromising the urban front as a unit.

The program includes laboratories, ultra-clean rooms, chemical testing rooms, office spaces, chemical and samples storage, a lobby and reception area.

Ground floor: lobby and reception area.

First floor: laboratories: chemical laboratory, bio-chemical laboratory, immunological laboratory, micro-biological laboratory, food laboratory, technical area, office area: administrator’s office , management office, meeting room, finance office, sales and marketing office.

-1 floor: magazine (laboratory storage), refrigeration room, training hall, genetic laboratory, changing room, technical room.

-2 floor: parking area, technical area.

 Our main goal was to bring natural light to all the spaces, and we made it possible.

The corridors embrace the tecnichal and private spaces to the center of the space. Those paths are characterized by large glass plans from floor to ceiling.

Being the natural light the goal of this project, the color is almost neutral transforming the variety of textures our main source to characterize the space and duplicate the natural light, using glass, mirrors and gloss finishes. These materials helped to reflect light and transform the space.

Ceilings also where part of our texture work and we explored the textured acoustic dropped ceilings at the corridors, also the offices ceilings with a translucent false ceiling.

The whole floor is elevated to carry all the technical wiring required.

The textures where also explored once again using PVC carpet at offices and regular vinyl at the waiting and corridor areas, since those materials give comfort and are proper for clean and maintenance.

The furniture was defined with the client in order to find the proper function and also bring a strong design quality to the space. This selection brings to the space a strong personality never giving away the comfort of staff. The option of having different waiting areas (hall) with different ambient and sits it’s a prove of that desire. There are also some elements with Andaras Studio signature as office furniture, wall and door signs.

The image of this medical laboratories and offices looks for a modern, simple and sophisticated look, being very dynamic and with a strong personality.
